South Dakota has many great educational programs for students across the state.   One of the high schools focused on preparing students for their futures is the Career & Technical Academy in Sioux Falls. By enrolling in a class or two at CTE Academy, students have access to relevant, hands-on learning opportunities for exploring careers. Students can dive deeper into learning about professional programs like: Finance, Architecture, Health Science, Engineering, Media Production, Manufacturing, and more.  A two block time period gives CTE students the chance to work closely with their instructors and other students from surrounding schools on projects using state-of-the-art lab equipment.

If someone is interested in learning more about manufacturing, he or she could travel to the CTE Academy to take a class on welding or principles of manufacturing, then travel back to their home school to resume their regular classes. The Academy gives students another alternative for classes. It allows students to gain a realistic picture of what it’s like working in a specific field.

It’s often hard to answer the question “What do you want to do when you get older?” because there are so many options to choose from. The best thing a person can do is get experience in an industry by either job shadowing, touring, interning or learning more about a career through classes and online research.  The more aware someone is about a specific career, the better equipped he or she is to make an informed decision.  All in all, the more students know about the industry, the better they can decide if the field is a good fit for them.

If you would like to learn more about the CTE Academy and how you can enroll in a class, please speak with your school counselor.
